Discussion "Hommage an Maria Janion. Ein Gespräch über eine eingreifende Denkerin aus Polen"

Prof. Maria Janion was one of the most renowned experts on the Polish literature of Romanticism. She died on 23 August 2020 at the age of 93. To commemorate her her life and work, Dr Iwona Dadej (Centre for Historical Research) talks with Prof. Magdalena Marszałek (Potsdam University) and Dr Katrin Stoll (Imre-Kertész-Kolleg in Jena). Lecture by Prof. Igor Kąkolewski "Die Verfassung vom 3. Mai 1791 aus der Sicht von Preußen, Sachsen und anderen Deutschen in Polen-Litauen"

Prof. Igor Kąkolewski, director of the Centre for Historical Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, talks about how the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May 1791, the first of its kind in Europe, was received by Germans living in Prussia, Saxony, and Poland. The lecture was organised in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Leipzig. The video is available only in German.

 


 

Presentation of Prof. Natalia Aleksiun's book "Conscious History: Polish Jewish Historians before the Holocaust"

Prof. Natalia Aleksiun (Touro College New York) presents her new book on Jewish historians in Poland before the Second World War. Also featured are: Professor Marcin Wodziński (Wrocław University), Professor Stephan Lehnstaedt (Touro College Berlin), Professor Igor Kąkolewski (Centre for Historical Research) and Dr Maciej Gugała (Centre for Historical Research). The event was organised in cooperation with Touro College Berlin.

 


 

Presentation of Grzegorz Gauden's book "Lwów – kres iluzji. Opowieść o pogromie listopadowym 1918”

Dr Iwona Dadej (Centre for Historical Research) talks to Grzegorz Gauden about his new book telling the story of a little-known tragic event – the pogrom of Jews by Poles in the-then Polish Lviv in November 1918, during the days when Poland was regaining its independence. Also featured are: Dr Christhardt Henschel (German Historical Institute in Warsaw), Professor Natalia Aleksiun (Touro College New York), Igor Isajew (publicist), Dr Anna Łazar (Museum of Art in Łódź) and Anna Wardzińska (Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw). Presentation of the book "Kobiety w Polsce 1945–1989. Nowoczesność – równouprawnienie – komunizm"

We are presenting a book which raises the issue of women’s situation during the communist rule in Poland: their activities, their roles in society and in the family, as well as the tasks and expectations that were placed upon them. Dr Iwona Dadej (Centre for Historical Research) talks to four authors of the book: Dr Małgorzata Fidelis (University of Illinois, Chicago), Prof. Barbara Klich-Kluczewska (Jagiellonian University), Prof. Piotr Perkowski (University of Gdańsk) and Dr Katarzyna Stańczak-Wiślicz (Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences). Also featured are: Johannes Kleinman (Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder), Dr Olga Sasunkevich (University of Gothenburg) and Ewa Maria Slaska.
